FISK is looking for a Gallery Manager to support our Portland-based gallery in partnership with Wieden+Kennedy. We're looking for someone who is highly organized, culturally engaged, and detail-oriented, with a strong interest in contemporary art, design, and creative communities.

This person will help bring exhibitions to life from planning through installation and opening, working closely with artists, vendors and the FISK team. We're looking for someone who is a strong writer and communicator, comfortable managing event logistics, budgets and marketing while helping shape the storytelling and overall experience of each exhibition.

At FISK, we pride ourselves on creating opportunities for artists and designers to share work, explore new ideas, and connect with the greater community. Our gallery is an extension of that ethos, bringing together creative practices and perspectives through exhibitions and events. If you're passionate about art, enjoy connecting with people and love bringing creative experiences to life, we'd love to hear from you.

This is an in-person position based in Portland, Oregon, with onsite availability required for gallery hours, exhibition installations, openings, and events. It would be a hybrid of remote work alongside working inside the gallery space during public hours.

Qualifications

1. Enthusiasm for the FISK ethos, work, and creative community

2. Experience in gallery management, arts administration, event production, or related creative fields

3. Strong writing skills, with the ability to communicate artistic concepts clearly and thoughtfully

4. Understanding and appreciation of contemporary art, design, curatorial practices and exhibition spaces

5. Highly organized, self-motivated, and comfortable managing multiple tasks

6. Experience coordinating events, vendors, artists and production logistics

7. Familiarity with social media marketing, email newsletters and press outreach

8. Experience managing budgets, expenses, and project timelines

9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and adaptable approach

10. Proficiency in Figma, Google Suite, Social Media (Instagram), Dropbox and Slack

Responsibilities

1. Manage the day-to-day planning and coordination of gallery exhibitions and events

2. Work closely with FISK's creative leadership to develop programming and timelines around exhibits

3. Write and edit exhibition statements, artist biographies, press releases, and supporting marketing content

4. Communicate directly with artists, coordinating artwork details, exhibition requirements, travel schedules and logistics

5. Plan and coordinate exhibition openings, artist events and community programming

6. Coordinate vendors, fabricators, and external partners for production and installation, as needed

7. Be onsite to oversee exhibition installations and setup

8. Develop and manage gallery marketing communications, including Instagram content and email newsletters

9. Coordinate press outreach, media inquiries, and promotional opportunities for exhibitions

10. Manage gallery budgets, track expenses, and coordinate payments with the FISK operations team

11. Work closely with Wieden+Kennedy to coordinate gallery access, scheduling, logistics and event needs

12. Maintain organized artist information, artwork inventories and documentation files

13. Build and maintain relationships with artists, creative partners and the local Portland community

14. Work independently, anticipate needs, and bring a collaborative, thoughtful approach to each exhibition

15. Keep an open mind and a learning spirit with new challenges
